population The course "Geography of population and settlements" is one of the disciplines of the specialty Geography. It aims: to explain the methodology for the study of population and settlements and its application in practice; to give knowledge about basic concepts, categories, and indicators and reveal features and patterns in the development and spatial location of population and settlements on Earth under the influence of various socio-economic and natural conditions. Analyze the patterns and trends in the formation of various ethno-confessional communities and conflicts associated with them. Theoretical issues, concepts and categories that are studied are the basis for the preparation of students in disciplines where the population and settlements are considered regionally.

The material is structured in two parts - Geography of population and geography of the settlements. The first part deals with the methodological characteristics of the relationship "population - area" population structure and behavior of the urbanized population, with their manifestation on Earth. The main issues in the second part include the types and forms of settlements, functions and classifications of cities and geographical development of the largest urban agglomerations in the world.

The content of the course is consistent with the educational material that is taught in secondary schools and helps to prepare the teaching staff for this purpose.
